개정 고등영어 다락원 1과 Teens around the World 본문 해석 자료입니다.

먼저 본문 내용입니다.

Greetings from Far and Near

p1-no.1

Have you ever thought about how teens on the other side of the world spend their time?

What are their school lives like? How different are their lives from yours?

The weather, environment, and geographical conditions must surely affect them. Here are four teens from different parts of the world introducing their lives.

Learning in a Frozen Land

p2-no.2

Hei. That's the way we say hello here.

One more time:

Hei!

I'm Nicholai from Svalbard, Norway.

I attend the northernmost school in the world. It's August, but we wear our winter clothes when we go to school.

The surrounding mountains are covered with snow, and the thermometer barely rises above freezing.

Reindeer walk everywhere while a stuffed polar bear stands inside the school.

The land around Svalbard is barren.

There are neither tall trees nor insects, and there are fewer kinds of animals than in temperate zones.

Students over the age of 16 take a survival course in which they are taught how to behave in nature, how to escape from polar bears, how to survive in winter, how to find safe places to camp, and how to deal with avalanches.

My school is very multicultural. People have come here to work from different countries like Russia, Thailand, and Chile.

And the school provides an education for their children. I am quite happy to be in a culturally diverse environment with my international friends.

Being Connected in an Isolated Area

p3-no.3

Hello!

I'm Julie from Alice Springs, the Northern Territory of Australia, commonly known as the Outback.

Australia is a huge continent, and many people live in geographically isolated areas.

The School of the Air is one of the means by which students in remote communities can learn.

How do we learn at the School of the Air?

We take classes from teachers in studios who give us lessons on the interactive satellite network.

The teachers use a video camera and an electronic whiteboard for their classes.

We can watch and respond in real time via a web camera attached to our computer.

We study this way for at least half an hour per week for each subject in which we are enrolled.

We spend the rest of our time working through the assigned materials with a parent, an older sibling, or a tutor.

Previously, we received our course materials and returned our written work to the education center by using the postal service.

However, the expansion of Internet service into the Outback now enables faster and more effective reviews of each student's homework.

Learning is always fun.

Using modern technology makes learning very special.

Learning in the Amazon Rainforest

p4-no.4

Hola!

My name is Diego.

I live in a small village in Ecuador called Mondana.

It's located in the Amazon Rainforest, which is often called the "lungs of the world" because it plays such an important role in maintaining the climate and air of the world.

Life in the Amazon is changing quickly. A few years ago, a road was built across the river from the school, so now we can go to school by bus.

Before the road was made, we went to school by boat, which made the journey very difficult. However, this kind of development result in the destruction of the rainforest.

People say it's not easy to find a balance between development and conservation.

My school specializes in ecotourism.

Learning doesn't take place only in the classroom.

We also learn through a practice-based approach.

We learn about sustainable agriculture.

We take care of animals, do organic farming, and do maintenance work around the school.

After we graduate, many of us work in Ecuador's ecotourism industry.

As for me, I want to work as an ecotour guide. It will be a rewarding job!

Being Diverse in Southeast Asia

p5-no.5

Magandang Umaga! My name is Corim.

I'm from the Philippines, but I attend an international school in Malaysia.

This country itself is a multicultural society with Malays, Chinese, Indians, and some minorities living side by side.

My school is even more multicultural as my classmates are from all over the world.

My classes are taught in English, which is a language every student knows.

Because the mother tongues of my classmates vary, it is fun to hear them talking on the phone with their parents in different languages.

I'd like to mention one of my favorite events at school:

International Day.

It is a school event with lots of activities that involve students, parents, and teachers.

Everyone wears clothes that represent their country, and they share their culture, music, dance, and food.

International Day promotes acceptance and celebration of our national, cultural, and religious diversity.

It is fun and gives us a great opportunity to learn about the world and its people.
